Unit 2 The United Kingdom
I. Teaching Objectives
By the end of this lesson, students should be able to :
1. Knowledge objective: To learn the usage of the important words and phrases and know some information about the United Kingdom.
2. Ability objective: Enable the Ss to read effectively under the guidance of the teacher,
and make them have a better understanding of the United Kingdom. 3. Emotional objective: Widen the Ss’ international vision and form the Ss’ consciousness of cross-culture communication.
II. Teaching Important/ Difficult Points
Important point: Have a total and detail comprehension of the UK from history,
geography, politics, and culture etc.
Difficult Point: Some sentences are hard to understand.

V. Teaching Procedure
Step 1 Warming-up ( 2-5 min s)
1. Warming up by sharing information
Today we are learn about the United Kingdom. What do you know about it Listen to me telling you about it .
2. Ask Ss do a quiz on page 9.
Step 2 Pre-reading ( 10 min s)
Ask Ss to answer the three questions about the U. K. on page 9. Step 3 Reading (15mins) Activity 1: skimming
I will ask the students to skim the passage, and answer the questions.
1. How many countries are the United Kingdom made up of
2. How many invaders influence the U.K. And which countries are they Activity 2: scanning
In this activity, I will ask Ss to read the passage again to find out the main ideas of
each parts and divide the passage into three parts .
Step 4 Post-reading ( 10 min s) Ask Ss to finish the exercises on page 11. Step 5 Homework ( 4 min s)
1. Read the text and try to find out some important or difficult words and expressions. 2. Write a short summary of the passage.
