To learn some cultural differences between China andwestern countries on making invitations; to cultivate students’ awareness ofrespecting the elder.

1.1 Introduction

T: Goodmorning,  boys and girls! Are you happy toady?

T: What’s the  weather like ?

T: What day is  it today?

T: What’s the  date today?

T: Sure?

T: Wow, guess  what? Today is my birthday! Do you believe it ?

学生共同回答教师提出的问题,跟随教师用口头表达、肢体语言及图片进行的引导,邀请学生参加教师的生日聚会,自然进入课题。

1.2Eliciting. Discovery and Explanation

T: Ok, I’m going  to have a birthday party tonight. Can you come to my party?( write down the sentence )

T: Are you sure?

T: You also can  say: sure, I’d love to.(  write down the sentence)Read  after me, sure, I’d love to.

T: Very  good!(Ask students) Can you come to my party?

T: Great! Today  is Saturday?

T: Can you come  to my party on Saturday?

T: How about on Monday/ on the 12th ?(write down these  words about time)

T:(point at the time)Class,  can you find out some similarities ?

T: Pay more  attention to the word on. We use it  before a specific time, just like Sunday, Monday, the 12th…….. clear?

T: Good! But some friends of mine can’t come to my  party, because some of them have to do something. Let’s see what do they have  to do. I will show you the pictures. How about this girl? what does she have  to do?

T:(point at the  piano and ask) What’s this in English?

T: You are clever!(point at  the picture) So, she has a piano lesson, right?(Ask one by one, write down  the name of activities: have  a piano lesson /go to the doctor/ study for a test/ help my parents visit my aunt)(put emphasis on the darken words )

T: Now, class, please turn to  page 25, read these phrases loudly in 1a, then match the words with the pictures. Got it?

 (check the answers by asking volunteers or  picking some students)

T: Ok, you’ve done a very  good job! Next, if we have to say no to an invitation, can we just say: No, I  can’t.?

T: In order to  be polite and avoid hurting others. What should we say?

T: That’s right!  We can put it in this way: I’m sorry, I can’t. Then give a reason, right? We  use have to(write down the phrase) to express something  we have to do, right?

T: Now, read  after me.

T:(show the pictures  again and ask) Can she come to my party on  Saturday?(write down the word she below you)

T: Why?

T: All most  right. We put it in this way: she has to help her parents.(write down  has  below have and her below my )

T: (ask a boy)  Can you come to my party on Sunday?

T: Good.(Ask  other students) Can he come to my party on Sunday?

T: Why?

TS: his  aunt! (write down his below my)

T: Excellent! He  has to visit his aunt.

2.1 Mechanical Practice:

2.1.1  Repetition

T: Now, please  look at the screen. I have some sentences here. Please read them loudly and  try to remember where they are. Later, we will play a game. I will make some  sentences disappear, you should tell me as quickly as possible. The fastest  one can get a surprise! Ready, go!

2.1.2:  Substitution:

T: Ok, good! Let’s  play a game. I have many cards for you. Some have the word Yes on them, some  have No and the name of an activity. When you choose Yes , you should say,  sure, I’d love to. When you choose No, you should say: sorry, then give me a  reason according to the card, clear? The one who gets the right answer can  get certain points.

Ss: Yes.

T: Let’s begin!  (Do the exercises as the requirements)

T: Can you come  to my party tomorrow?

T: Very good,  get 2 points.(Ask another student) can she come to my party tomorrow?

T: Wonderful! 3  points! Now, class, I hand out the cards, please practice in the same way. Ask  one by one.

3. Production

3.1: Communicative Activities:

T: Ok, next, we  will do an interesting activity. I divide you into several groups with 4  students. Suppose one of you will have a birthday party, you should invite  the other three and one who is not here to the party. Make a dialogue using  what we’ve learnt today. Later, welcome some groups to give us a performance.  Here we go!

T: It’s your  time

T: Wonderful  performance! All of you can get 4 points.(ask other students to practice)

T: Class, you’ve  done a very good job! Do you know how we Chinese celebrate birthday?(show  pictures) We Chinese often have eggs and noodles on our birthday, right?. How  about western people, for example, Americans?(show pictures) They often take  birthday cakes and have parties, right? But now many Chinese people also take  birthday cakes and hold a party. Because of the development of the world, we  communicate with others more frequently than before.

T: Everyone  knows his birthday. But how many of us know our parents’ birthday? Especially  our mothers’. Remember that the day when we born was the suffering time of  our moms. Say thanks to mom, Ok?

3.2 Conclusion:

T: Excellent! Today,  we’ve learnt some key vocabulary and useful expressions, can we say them  together? How to invite some one?

T: Today’s  homework is: The first one: Go home and ask your parents’ birthday then keep  it in your mind. Group 1 to 5 make a dialogue   according to the communicative activity. Group 6 and 7 just copy the  phrases and dialogue on page 25 and try to memorize them. Am I clear?

T: Ok, class,  can you come to my party on Sunday? I’m waiting for you!

T: Thanks for  your cooperation! That’s all for today.   See you next time.
